Accommodation at Sabarimala

Sabarimala temple attracts about 45–50 million pilgrims annually, the largest number in the world, even though the temple is closed for most of the year. It is open only from mid-November to last week of December, and from mid-January to mid-April, apart from 6 days at the beginning of each month in the Malayalam calendar.

The temple is situated atop a steep hill, which is surrounded by many hills covered with dense forestation in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala at a height of about 1530 feet. The travel weary pilgrims need a place to rest after their arduous journey and there are plenty of guest houses and travel bungalows which cater to the pilgrims, managed by private parties or the Kerala government or the Devaswom Board.

Though the governing body of the Sabarimala temple does not allow any hotels on the holy hills, there are plenty of hotels and resorts in the neighborhood to choose from. The Sabarimala map is useful in locating the convenient place of stay.
