Over recent years we have seen a large increase in
accessories for the bathroom, such as the modern steam shower and whirlpool
baths to the more traditional hand crafted stone baths. This in turn has
enabled bathroom suppliers to inundate us with a mixture of modern, traditional
and contemporary options openly available for almost any budget.
If you are considering improving or simply redecorating your
bathroom you must first determine what your new design will consist of and then
work on reflection to bathroom decor – i.e. the style, the colour scheme, the
furnishings. You should always opt for a style that goes with the rest of your
interior. Many people make the mistake of putting an overtly high-tech bathroom
into a cottage or a traditionally themed home. This is wrong. If your home is decorated in a country
styling – your bathroom should reflect this with the decor. However this doesn't mean that you can't have modern
bathroom accessories or you have to have lifeless furnishings - there is always a contemporary take
on the "traditional style".
Bathroom Furniture
Your bathroom furniture should complement the rest of the
scheme. – For example, a modern designer wash basin will look out of place
situated with a traditional bathtub! If your bathroom is too small, try to
incorporate functional furniture such as a wall mounted cabinet or a vanity
unit featuring a sink, this will allow additional storage space. If you have
the space, it's useful to have a separate bathtub and shower enclosure, but if
space is limited you can always go for the combined shower and bath or if
budget will allow a modern quadrant steam shower bath. Use additional items such as a chrome towel
rail for the more modern approach or for the more traditional look you can use
a roll top bath.
Bathroom lighting
Lighting is often overlooked, yet it's a very important
element of a successful bathroom. The bathroom is a location where we like to
relax and enjoy a tranquil bathe or shower. Your mood is of importance and for
this an ambient lighting effect is the prefect addition. For this we can
utilise directional lighting with a dimmable feature. Another factor worth
considering for improving the atmosphere is an illuminated or LED mirror.
A successful bathroom is one that consists of a warm
inviting interior where the furnishings and furniture work in balance with one
and other. The room should give off an ambient and pleasant feel enticing you
in to a tranquil mood enabling you to relax and allow the stresses and strains
of the day ebb away.
