Repair, Maintenance and Care for Toronto Used Cars

One of the primary purposes of a vehicle is to provide safety and comfort for travelers. As such, it is important to keep it in good condition to prolong its life and avoid costly visits to the repair shop. People tend to have an emotional attachment to their cars, similar to the bond they have with pets, so they do what they can to keep their cars clean, efficient and in good shape regardless of the expense.

The way a car looks reflects how well it is taken care of. A clean, spotless car with hardly any dents or scratches shows that the owner is careful and drives well. The choice of paint and accessories can also reinforce this impression. A well-maintained car usually has a higher resale value, which is why owners invest time and money in the upkeep of their vehicles.

Car paint has several components. Pigments and resin give it color, while metal and mica (phyllosilicate) flakes make it shimmer and give it a more solid look. Typically, car paint is sandwiched between a primer underneath and a clear overcoat to protect it. A minor recoating job should take care of any scratches, depending on how deep it is. Most paint scratch "repairs" can be a do-it-yourself task unless, of course, the scratch goes as deep as the steel body.

However, clear coat can fade and make the car exterior look faded and prone to scratches. Acid rain, tree sap and bird droppings can also stain the car exterior. As such, paint sealant should be applied on Toronto used cars to protect the car's clear coating and absorb ultraviolet rays, which can easily dull the paint.

Toronto used cars may also have additional undercoating as part of the repainting job before they are sold to new owners. The underside of the car or undercarriage may not readily seem exposed to the harsh weather elements, but its close proximity to the ground leaves it a tad more vulnerable than the rest of the car. Without sufficient protection, the undercarriage is almost completely exposed to road salt, loose gravel or ice.

Fortunately, car dealerships and repair shops offer undercoating services for Toronto used cars. Unlike clear coat, which is made of clear resin, undercoating is made of powdered fiberglass, ceramic, or silicone, or rubber. The undercoating can absorb salt and road debris, substances which can cause excessive friction to develop on the undercarriage. A good layer of undercoating reduces engine and road noise, making the interior more quiet and comfortable.
