Ndc calls on ec

The Greater Accra Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to constitute an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to address the growing number of concerns in the on-going Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) in the region.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Regional chairman of NDC Mr. Ade Coka was worried at the way and manner in which registration is conducted in some part of the Region.

Mr. Ade Coka said the IPAC meeting will be able to come out with a strong decision to stop the confusions that has engulfed the BVR since it started.

He said some EC officials allow people to use their business addresses to register instead of address of temporary residence.

According to him people must be told to register at their places of residence and provide physical address where they can be located when the need arises.

"We feel that is the fault of the electoral commission given wrong interpretation of temporary residence Claus as stipulated in the 1992 constitution and electoral laws of this country" he added.

Mr. Ade Coka was surprised that people would be allowed to register with an address of a "kiosk" and asked that should there be rain and the whole structure is taken away how the EC will locate the person.

The NDC kin pin mentioned that several attacks have been launched on their members trying to scare them away from their registration centers.

He maintained that this development would not help the young and peaceful democratic dispensation the country is enjoying.

He therefore called on the removal of DSP Awuni from G/A police command and advised that the police should be up and doing, and to ensure that law and order is maintain during and after the BVR exercise.

He cited examples of attacks on NDC members which includes the burning of car of an NDC member at Taifa, the pulling down of bill board of parliamentary aspirant and the president at Adenta and the embarrassment of NDC MP and former Minister by the police.

He emphasized that the NDC as a party believes in the rule of law adding that "any body who thinks all die be die is what they will rely on shall be delt with by laws of the land".

One could remember that some few weeks ago, Madam Ursula Owusu and Abu Jinapor all leading members of Nana Addo's campaign team visited Odododiodio constituency in the Greater Accra Region insulting Gas where they were mishandled by the people.
